5 Day Gorilla Trekking and Lake Bunyonyi Canoeing

A Bamboo Ecotours representative will pick you up in Kampala or Entebbe and drive to Bwindi National Park. The drive from Kampala to Bwindi National Park, which takes about 8-9hrs will go through the beautiful landscapes of western Uganda. The drive will go through the western Uganda towns of Masaka, Mbarara, and Kabale. There will be a stopover at the Equator crossing to take pictures. There will also be a lunch stopover at the Igongo Cultural Centre near Mbarara. After the lunch stop in Mbarara city, proceed to Bwindi National Park for dinner and overnight

You will head to the Bwindi National Park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The national park guide will present the basics of what to expect during the gorilla trek. The national guide will assign the gorilla trekking group during the pre-trekking briefing. Other visitors will likely join you. The gorilla trek can take from a few to many hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.

Mount Sabyinyo, or 'older man's teeth' in the local Rufumbira dialect, is one of the revered volcanoes in the chain of eight mountains that form the Virunga ranges of Central and Eastern Africa. The third peak of this famous volcano adjoins Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The one-day hike will start with an early morning drive from Kisoro town or Lake Mutanda area to the Ntebeko gate of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The drive to the base of the volcano will take about 1.5 hours. You will meet the national park guide from the volcano base, who will escort you through the hike. The Sabyinyo volcano hike takes about 7-9 hrs from the hiking trailhead to the summit of this extinct volcano and back to the trailhead. Because of its rugged nature, there are several wooden ladders along the hiking trail. After the hike, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight (budget accommodation).

You will travel from the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park area in the morning and head to Lake Bunyonyi to enjoy an afternoon full of swimming, canoe trekking, birding, etc. The journey from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to Lake Bunyonyi should take less than 3hrs drive. In the afternoon, you will enjoy the beauty of Lake Bunyonyi, considered the second deepest Lake in Africa. Lake Bunyonyi activities include canoe trekking, swimming, bird watching, etc. Dinner and overnight at Lake Bunyonyi (budget accommodation)

This is the last day of the trip. We will drive from Lake Bunyonyi back to Kampala or Entebbe. The drive from Bunyonyi to Kampala/Entebbe should take between 7 and 8 hours. There will be a stopover for lunch during the transfer. And this will be the end of the trip. Note that if interested, the trip can also end in Kigali, Rwanda instead of Kampala/Entebbe.
